Description
I have just begun to learn about the Canada Warbler recently. I am working on a large painting where a grey and yellow bird seemed to be the perfect fit so I began researching them. These guys are all flash in front and business in the back. They make for a good pop of eye candy. I am pretty sure (but not totally sure) I spotted one last spring when I was out in our back woods. The bird I spotted appeared to be a typical greyish bird when it’s back was turned towards me but when it took off I got to see the flash of a yellow belly. The bird flew off so fast that I didn’t get a chance to see if it had the grey necklace that helps to identify this little bird. But, like I said, I only recently started looking into Canada Warblers so I didn’t know what to look for. I love discovering and researching new critters, and love that my art gives me an excuse to do so.
This series of mini bird paintings is practice for my larger pieces featuring birds, and a way to build up my still-life skills with the pinecones collected from around my yard. The works also reminds me of warmer days when there were more birds to watch. Winter has it’s own charm but I do miss my bird friends so I am filling up my studio with their portraits. If you also love the birds pick up one of these sweet pieces for yourself or someone you love🐦
