I made this painting for a very dear loved one who recently went through some serious health stuff. Luna is her sweet furry companion of many years. Luna is a bit worried and protective around strangers, but very loving to her people. When she firsts start getting comfortable she starts to show a wary sort of affection, and as the comfort level grows she softens more and begins to love fiercely. When I handed this painting off one of her people said this expression was Luna’s *love me* look and I can see that. I caught a photo of Luna looking up at a Christmas tree a few years ago and her sweet, almost innocent, expression is what I used as the basis of the painting.
I wanted this painting to express love and healing for my dear loved one. Some think moths symbolize rebirth and transformation and I can see that. I added the Luna Moths in the background to symbolize hope, looking up, and the forward momentum of life even in difficult times. Luna was certainly a beautiful subject to paint and I really enjoyed digging into this color palette🧡💜💗💚
